Learning Motivation of English Education Students

Abstract

Learning motivation is the internal drive that fuels curiosity, persistence, and the desire to acquire to acquire new knowledge and skills. This study aimed to determine the level of learning motivation of English education students, focusing on intrinsic and extrinsic learning motivation in a private university in Central Philippines during the academic year 2024-2025. The study utilized descriptive quantitative research design and used research-made survey questionnaire to determine the level of learning motivation of randomly selected 169 BSEd-English students. Findings revealed that BSEd-English students’ overall motivation level in both intrinsic and extrinsic areas were high. Also, there is no significant difference in the levels of learning motivation when grouped and compared according to age, year level, and average family monthly income. The findings suggests collaborate in fostering academic excellence through self‑directed learning, meaningful rewards, supportive environments, and inclusive initiatives such as career exploration and scholarship programs..
